Research:

  • Researched and developed a Structural Engineering software application  “Mathform” for the Computer Aided Design and Pattering of Tensioned Fabric Structures. Developed algorithms for non-linear analysis using stiffness matrix and dynamic relaxation, with AutoCAD 2000, Visual Basic, VC++ and Microsoft Access on Windows Operating System.
  • Researched and developed Three New Cladding System, which could be used for cladding facades of buildings in areas of high seismicity and in particular in the state of California (seismic zone 4), based on the Seismic provisions of the California Building Code, 2002 edition.
  • Researched and developed an engineering methodology, “Nonlinear Load History Analysis of Space frame Structures” to evaluate the ultimate load on a conventionally designed space frame. Both geometric and material nonlinearties with local/global buckling of the structure together with potential progressive collapse are considered in evaluating the ultimate loading.

  • Research and compiled a study “Structures in Earthquake” to a) Assess the performance and behavior of buildings in earthquake and b) Strategies for seismic analysis and design of buildings to satisfy building code.

  • Currently researching to co-author a textbook titled “Light Weight Structures ” for architects and engineers to analyze and design of space frames, tensile fabric, tension glazing and other weightless structures

  • Researched and developed a “New Bolted Spaceframe System ” for India. Even though space frame is a 1960’s building technology, but its potential to generate unique form, and its potential as a materially efficient sustainable structure type, remain largely unexplored and present significant future opportunity in India and I wanted to take advantage of this.

  • Researched and developed a roofing system “Light weight Steel Roofs ” an alternate to Tensioned fabric structures. The forms are generated and structurally idealized using Structural Engineering software application “Mathform” for the Computer Aided Design and Pattering of Tensioned Structures. The fabric is replaced by steel sheet metal this ensures longevity.

  •  Worked on an amphitheater Ferro cement roof cover for an institution building in Bijapur, India. The roof shell form is generated by our form finding software program. The structural frame work will be in angles and rods built part by part. I have come up with a proprietary method to assemble and welded on site. Each shell is about 60feetx60feet and about 20 feet high.

  • Currently working on “Sustainability projects applying high technology, low technology and mid technology.” The projects are based on my  theory that High point of sustainability is to be live in harmony with the “Earth” by only consume what is available without processing or enhancement i.e. no fire, no cooking, no tilling, no construction, no tool, etc. High point of High technology is to colonize space and start living there or to create a sunshade to the Sun and reduce radiation and in turn reduce global warming. And mid technology is to design green buildings.

  • Currently working on “Form Follows Formula” a research into non- conventional forms conceived with the aid of Mathematics (Differential geometry), and to Design/Build a Building using forms derived from Mathematics. The most interesting and exciting part of this research is the morphable, shape changing qualities of forms that are parametrically defined; the great variety of possible forms that can be conceived from very basic Math relationships.
  •  Working on High-rise (Ground+14 floors) affordable housing using appropriate technologies for the proposed 2 BHK apartments of 550 Sft at a unit cost of Rs.5.0 lakhs in Urban areas.
