Complexity and Contradictions in Life, My Philosophical Investigation (April 2007)

Our extended living family; which includes my mother, my brother and his family live in one building

Here are some of the Books which have influenced me eventhough I must admit that I have not fully understood t he content of these books.

I am an Architect/ Structural Engineer currently practicing in Bangalore, India. Prior to my current practice I was working with Advanced Structures Inc.

My goal is to be a carbon negative individual or at a minimum to be a carbon neutral individual i.e. reduce my carbon footprint and increase my carbon capture by growing trees that will absorb all my CO2 emmisions. My goal is also to reduce my water footprint i.e. to reduce water consumption and harvest rainwater to offset my water consumption.

Agriculture represents a high point of sustainability and I am proud to have got an opportunity to be involved in farming.

Currently researching and implementing rainwater harvesting and water management systems in our farm to solve water scarcity problem, which is prevailing in and around our surrounding farms. If successful in implementation, this will be a breakthrough for us and local farmers who could also implement this technology. Also, working on setting up a biomass power plant (alternate energy) at our farm that can generate grid quality power by using available renewable sources of biomass fuels like firewood, rice husk, coconut fronds, coconut shell, and crop stalks etc.

Currently working on compiling sustainability projects from high technology to low technology and the mid technology. The work is based on theory that High point of sustainability is to live in harmony with the “Earth” by only consuming what is available without processing or enhancement i.e. no fire, no cooking, no tilling, no construction, no tool, etc. High point of High technology is to colonize space and start living there or create a sun-shade to the Earth and reduce radiation and in turn reduce global warming. And the middle path is to design green buildings using mid technology.

Examples of hitech projects : 1) Biosphere-2  and  2) Sun shield project

Examples of low tech projects: 1) Neeru a rainwater harvesting project for rural India:
This includes my farm pond etc.
2) Utopian Village is an  alternative urban lifestyle, which will be quiet, green, healthy, and self sustaining in terms of food, water and power. This utopian village will be one of its kinds in the world due to its minimum per capita resource consumption.

Example of mid technology : 1) Green Buildings
